Abbott and Thomas impress in One-Day Cup

Kyle Abbott spearheaded Hampshire’s victory, while Johannesburg-born Adam Thomas delivered an impressive all-round display for Surrey.

Kyle Abbott rolled back the years with a sharp new-ball spell as Hampshire beat Glamorgan by 90 runs at the Utilita Bowl.

The former Proteas quick first chipped in with 19 off 18 balls, sharing a 32-run ninth-wicket stand with Eddie Jack that carried Hampshire to 263.

Abbott then struck three times in seven overs for only 20 runs. He removed both openers, Zain-ul-Hassan and Eddie Byrom, before castling Harry Wallace. Glamorgan reached 173 in reply. Former Proteas batter Colin Ingram hit two fours in his 24.

At The Oval, Adam Thomas delivered with bat and ball as Surrey beat Kent by 95 runs. The all-rounder made 27 during Surrey’s 286, then claimed 2-35 from six overs.

Thomas dismissed Harry Finch and fellow Johannesburg-born Chris Benjamin during a productive middle-overs spell. Benjamin had earlier contributed behind the stumps by pouching opener Dominic Sibley for 53.

South African seamer Keith Dudgeon also struck for Kent, bowling Daniel Worrall to finish Surrey’s innings. He then provided late-order impetus with 15 off 13 balls, smashing three fours.
