IND vs ENG: Archer Lauds Tongue After Pace Duo Tear India Apart

After England’s commanding 125-run win over India at Trent Bridge, Jofra Archer emphasised how crucial bowling partnerships are in T20s, pointing to his productive alliance with fellow pacer Josh Tongue.

It was the opening spells from Archer and Tongue that set up England’s defence of 201. The pace duo produced an exhibition of hostile fast bowling, sharing five wickets with the new ball to reduce India to 52/5 inside six overs of the run chase. Only 24 more runs were added from that position as the Men in Blue were bundled out for 76.

“Brilliant (smiles)! I think we are really similar, so if I don’t get wickets, then definitely, definitely he will,” said Archer during the post-match presentation ceremony.

On his bowling partnership with Tongue, Archer said: “Yeah, it is. Honestly, I enjoy bowling with him. I’ve bowled with him all summer, bowled with him in every game so far since I’ve been back for the summer (smiles). So I really enjoy bouncing ideas off him, seeing what he’s doing from his end and whether it’s cross-seam or whatever. So it’s really good. He also passes on information as well. It’s really enjoyable.”

Archer and Tongue shared seven wickets between them. Archer claimed a three-wicket haul, while Tongue picked up four wickets. Both pacers predominantly dismissed the Indian batters with express pace and sharp bounce. On one of the better batting surfaces, Archer and Tongue inflicted India’s biggest defeat by runs in T20Is.
