Sachin Tendulkar Shares His Key Takeaways from IPL 2026

Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar reflected on some of the defining moments of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season and shared his analysis via a post on his Reddit account.

He highlighted Josh Hazlewood’s dismissal of Jos Buttler in the first qualifier, describing it as a masterclass in deception. He explained that the Australian pacer had reduced his pace by nearly 10 km/h, and Buttler had already committed to his shot by the time the ball reached him.

He then praised the influence that teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi of Rajasthan Royals (RR) had on the game. He wrote: “Oppositions were thinking about him, teams were planning for him, and fans were waiting for him long before he arrived at the crease.”

Additionally, he lauded the two-time champions RCB. He spoke about their captain, Rajat Patidar, who had led from the front throughout the season while also fostering an environment in which others could do the same. He wrote that this balance between leadership and contribution was an important factor in their run to yet another final.

Tendulkar also noted that, this season, most matches were decided between the seventh and fifteenth overs. He suggested that the powerplay phase could be split into two parts, with the first four overs serving as a batting powerplay and the remaining two overs as a bowling powerplay that could be utilised at any point during the innings. He described this as a potential strategic innovation that could become one of the most important phases of T20 cricket if implemented.

He then commended the performances of Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans, concluding that IPL seasons are rarely defined by strong starts alone, as teams adapt, improve, and discover new solutions as the competition progresses.
