All Blacks ready to rip into Stormers

Assistant coach Jason Ryan says the All Blacks have done their homework on the South African clubs and can’t wait to kick off the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series on a high. djcc.club

Quoted by Stuff.nz, the forwards guru highlighted a confident start, blooding new faces and sticking to the high-tempo, possession-based blueprint head coach Dave Rennie has installed since taking charge of New Zealand.

“I think it’s really important we start with a bit of confidence, and we get into our game,” Ryan said.

The All Blacks have arrived in South Africa for a seven-match tour that opens against the Stormers on Friday, before clashes with the Sharks, Vodacom Bulls and Lions, and three Tests against the Boks ahead of a fourth in the US.

At the All Blacks’ “Welcome to Country” event at Cape Town Stadium last Friday, veteran hooker Codie Taylor said he couldn’t wait to renew old rivalries, while Rennie praised the Stormers’ “great reputation” and “pretty strong season in the URC”.

A 44-man squad, currently sans skipper Ardie Savea until week after week two of the campaign, includes several new and uncapped players.

“We have 10 new guys involved that have come into the group and a few debutants that have never been into the environment before, so making sure we set them up is really important, firstly,” Ryan added.

Rennie went unbeaten in his first three games in charge during the Nations Championship, and Ryan said the players have licence to keep playing an expansive game instilled by the former Wallabies and Chiefs boss.

“We want to play some footy, and [Rennie] has been pretty clear that we really want to give everyone a crack in these first few games,” he noted.

“That’s what the tour is about. We haven’t hidden from that and that’s the opportunity.”

On the Stormers challenge in Cape Town, Ryan explained that a strong start against John Dobson’s men would set the tone for the tourists’ SA safari.

“We’re starting well, getting to know the Stormers, who we’ve done some good preparation on, and we’re preparing accordingly for each game.”

Da Cruz Backs Chiefs to Improve After Impressive Win

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has backed his side to improve their overall performance following their victory over Kruger United.

The Glamour Boy got their Betway Premiership campaign off to a good start after claiming a 3-1 victory over the newly-promoted side.

A brace from Wandile Duba and a goal from Flavio Silva cancelled out Khetukuthula Ndlovu’s goal to guide Amakhosi to victory at the Mbombela Stadium.

Da Cruz believes his players delivered the type of performance he expects and is confident they will continue to improve as they adapt to his playing philosophy.

“During 75 minutes we controlled the game, the first part of the first half, the first part of the second half also but last 15 minutes of the first half we didn’t control the game and we conceded one goal,” Da Cruz told SuperSport TV.

“What we saw today it is what we expect for every game but sometimes we need to manage the tempo, slow impact, slow impact defend the tempo of the game but we will learn step by step and we will increase.”

Ouaddou: It Wasn’t an Easy Game For PSL Opening

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has praised his players for grinding out a valuable victory against Milford FC.

The Buccaneers got their title defence off to a positive start after claiming a 2-0 victory over Milford in their opening Betway Premiership encounter.

Goals from Oswin Appollis and Tshepang Moremi guided the Sea Robber to victory at the Orlando Amstel Arena in Soweto.

The Buccaneers mentor admitted his side were not at their fluent best in their Betway Premiership opener

“Look, it was not an easy game for the opening game of the PSL, I expected a little bit more in terms of being dominant on the ball, more control on the ball. I think first half even we managed to create some chances to kill the game,” Ouaddou told SuperSport after the game.

“I don’t think we had the control of the game, in the second half we made some tactical adjustments in order to find more players in the half spaces and at the same time to be more patient to give the opportunity to the second line to give us to find the run.

“Because I felt that everybody wants the ball on the feet at the same line and we didn’t put this team in trouble too much in the first half but in the second we managed to create like three or four chances but ok we have to give credit to the boys in the opening game.

“We can see that some of the players still a little bit tired with the World Cup, but good three points to take and we move on.”
